4th Newbury (St. Johns) Scout Troop is currently flourishing in Newbury. We have 30 regularly attending members on most Monday evenings. I'm afraid that does mean that at the moment we are unable to accept new members who are not already in our Cub Pack. Meetings take place every week, during term-time, on a Monday evening, usually starting at 7.30pm and finishing at 9.15pm. The Troop runs a varied programme with numerous different activities depending upon the time of year and weather. In the last 12 months we've hiked, climbed, sailed, canoed, abseiled, dry-stone-walled, rafted, camped, cooked, crafted as well as many other activities. We try to get out and about as much as possible during the lighter evenings and run a full and varied indoor programme during the long winter nights. As part of their Creative Challenge, Scouts are supposed to do something to Promote Scouting. More often than not, we cover this with posters. But occasionally, we program an evening to do an audio presentation. For previous efforts, see further down the page - but for 2019 it was 4th Newbury Scouts do Darwin Awards :) Previous Year's workThis time the Scouts have been recording Thomas the Tank Engine audio books;
This will help them towards completion of their Creative Challenge. Details of all the badges available to members of the Scout Troop can be seen at ScoutBase UK. Every year, the Scout programme is geared towards preparing for our Summer Camp in August. In 2011 we enjoyed the sunshine on the Isle of Wight, in 2012 we enjoyed the beach in Jersey and in 2013 we're heading for Taunton, Somerset!
